Season in the Yukon

End May to Mid-June
Great lake fishing for Lake Trout and Pike. Very good fishing for Rainbows in Kathleen River and for Grayling and Pike in Sixmile. Good Grayling fishing in the creek inlets of Kathleen, Dezadeash and Frederick Lakes. Long outings (fishing until after midnight) and average temperatures between 10-20°C. Kokanee in Kathleen Lake also very plentiful. Excellent fishing for Sockeye Salmon in the East Alsek River (fly out).

Mid-June to early July
In general same as above. Melting snow could affect river fishing slightly (e.g. Louise Lake & Frederick Lake) but only in some isolated places, but not Sixmile and Kathleen Rivers and . Excellent Sockeye Salmon fishing in the Akwe and East Alsek rivers (3-day fly outs, reservation necessary)) and good Sockeye fishing in the Sirku River. Lake fishing this time of year is outstanding. The weather is generally pleasant and warm with temperatures sometimes over 30° C. Kokannee fishing in Kathleen Lake is still very good.

Early July to July 24
Chinnok Salmon plentiful in Tatshenshini and Takanne Rivers. Akwe and East Alsek Rivers are a great destination for both Chinook and Sockeye Salmon. Plentiful run of Sockeye Salmon also in the Sirku River too. Very good time for catching big Grayling in Dezadeash Lake on fly. The snow melt is over and all waters offer great sport. Weather normally nice and hot, topping the 30° C mark.. Kokanee Salmon good till the middle of July then they take to deep water.

July 24 to August 15
Good Sockeye Salmon fishing in the Sirku River. There are plenty of waters offering great fishing within a short radius of the lodge. Ideal time of the season for fly fishing in the rivers and for big Lake Trout in the lakes. The weather is usually nice and warm. Good Chum Salmon fishing in the Italio River.

August 15 to September 15
"Indian Summer" weather with temperatures around 20 C. The weather normally is pleasant and stable but sometimes fairly windy. Very good fly fishing in the rivers and for Pike fishing in the lakes. Lake Trout fishing in the lakes becomes more difficult (with the exception of the creek inlets on the Mush, Kathleen and Louise Lakes); to compensate, Kathleen River is packed with Lake Trout, especially from September onwards. The conditions for Sockeye Salmon fishing in Clear Creek are excellent and given favourable water levels, there are very good runs of Sockeye Salmon up the Tatshenshini. September 1 also marks the start of small game hunting. Excellent Coho fishing in the East Alsek river (fly out).

September 15 to early October
Kathleen River is world class for big Grayling, Lake Trout, Rainbow Trout and Whitefish. Pike fishing with flies is very good. Lake Trout fishing in the lakes becomes increasingly more difficult. Sockeye Salmon fishing in the Tatshenshini continues to be very good. Sockeye and Coho Salmon fishing is super in the Sirku. Coho Salmon in East Alsek (fly out) absolutely sensational. Fall weather: temperatures between 0 –12°C, and the weather can be unpredictable and particularly windy.
